Zooey Deschanel is a rising star in the world of music and on screen, recognisable by her unique style, big bright eyes and honey-like voice. She is regarded as a style icon and loves 1960′s fashion and older music.
Biography
Born in Los Angeles, California, USA on 17th January 1980, Zooey Claire Deschanel is the daughter of Caleb Deschanel, an Academy Award-nominated director whose works include “The Passion Of The Christ”, and Mary Jo Deschanel (nee Wier), an actress that starred in “Twin Peaks”. Her older sister, Emily Deschanel, is well known as the star of the TV show “Bones”. Zooey is of Irish and French descent.
On 19th September 2009 Zooey married Ben Gibbard, the lead in the band “Death Cab For Cutie” (the engagement was in December 2008).
Musician, Singer and Songwriter
Musically talented since a young age (playing on a small keyboard as a child to keep her occupied whilst travelling around with her family), Zooey has a fantastic singing voice (she had voice training lessons) and also plays many instruments including piano, keyboard, banjo and ukelele. She wrote a number of songs but kept them secret due to shyness. The musician M.Ward discovered Zooey’s secret songs whilst working together at the film “The Go-Getter” and persuaded her to let him listen. Now Zooey and M.Ward perform together as She & Him.
Zooey also has a few other songs of her own and sings in many of her films, such as “Elf”, “Yes Man” (featuring fictional band Munchausen By Proxy) and “(500) Days Of Summer”. She has also performed caberet around Los Angeles with fellow actress Samantha Shelton in their act If All The Stars Were Pretty Babies.
Her musical work doesn’t stop there, as she lends her talents collaborating with other artists.
Actress and TV Personality
Zooey Deschanel is a rising actress with amazing talent, often performing in a deadbeat quirky style she always manages to raise a smile on screen! She has performed in a variety of film and TV work recently.
Given her family background, Zooey was driven to pursue acting from an early age and got her big break at the age of 17 with a role in the TV show “Veronica’s Closet”. Her first film role came about a year later with a part in “Mumford”. With her distinctive acting style, Zooey’s rise to fame is increasing steadily throughout the 21st century.
She now has many roles to her name and hopefully many more to come.
