Zooey is the lead member of She & Him, the band which she formed in partnership with M. Ward.
When filming “The Go-Getter”, the singer and musician M.Ward was working on the soundtrack and he met Zooey. Ward had heard Zooey sing in “Elf” and the duo went on to record a song for the film’s end credits. Ward also discovered that she wrote many songs of her own. In fact, Zooey had been recording songs at home for years, but was shy of people hearing them. Nevertheless, she decided to send them to Ward and he decided he would like to record them properly. Their band She & Him was born.
The duo chose the name “She & Him” as it is quite humble and anonymous, indicating that the creation of the band is solely for the beautiful music. This also applies to the modest album titles.
Most of the songs which She & Him perform are written by Zooey, and her partnership with M.Ward gave her the opportunity to share her lovely music with the world. They also like to perform a few cover versions and have a couple of these on each album.
She & Him’s first album, Volume One, has been available since spring 2008 and their second will be released in the UK on 5th April, 2010.
